On Monday, September 20, 2021, Richard “Rick” Whorf passed away at the age of 59. He is the loving father of Nathan & Zackery Whorf, and father figure to Matthew Hammond, Danny Cooley & Carly Rose Gaddis. Rick was born on October 30, 1961 in Summerville S.C. to Richard & Selma Whorf. He began his culinary profession at Burger Chef in Pittsburgh, PA at 16 years of age. He rose through the ranks and his passion for cooking continued for the next 43 years. His career included work at Marriott Hotels, Hyatt Hotels, Rick’s Dahlonega and other food service businesses he either created or improved. His passion allowed Rick to excel across all levels of the culinary profession. Rick’s other passions included gardening and art, as well as maintaining a general interest in all things nature and anything obscure or “cool”. Aside from cooking for others, Rick’s biggest gift to this world was his ability to provide quiet compassion to many people across many different circumstances. No matter the sacrifices, Rick was always there to lend a helping hand or an encouraging word. His ability to provide people with calm waters was a gift borne of the many struggles he overcame throughout his life. Rick was never one to expect thanks. His thanks was seeing other people thrive from whatever little bit of assistance he could provide. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Richard, and the recent passing of his mother, Selma. He is survived by his children, Nathan & Zackery, his brothers and sisters, Paula, Jeffrey, Amy & Brian, along with numerous nieces, and nephews. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 26th, 2021 at the Yahoola Creek Grill located at 1810 S Chestatee, Dahlonega, GA 30533. Please join us to celebrate a life well lived at anytime between 3pm-7pm.
