Recently of Dahlonega and Greensboro in Georgia, Mr. Kemp was born in Newark, NJ.  He graduated from Hillside High School where he was a member of the Cheerleading Team & Junior ROTC.  While earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Tufts University, he joined the Navy’s accelerated training program and graduated as an officer from Midshipmen’s School at Columbia University.  Mr. Kemp then served as an Ensign in the Navy in the Atlantic and Pacific during WWII as well as a Lieutenant JG in the Naval Reserve through August 1946.  He earned his Master’s Degree in business from NYU in 1956.

He worked in his maternal grandfather’s handkerchief factory in Newark and ran the company after his grandfather retired.  He then worked for Western Electric and later for Reaction Motors as Chief Engineer in rocket propulsion systems for many projects including Vanguard and X-15 as well as NASA programs Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo before moving to Atlanta where he worked for several architectural firms.  Before retiring from Heery International as Chief Engineer, he earned an ASHRAE Award in 1989.  Mr. Kemp was a Deacon and an Elder in the Presbyterian Church.

His first wife JoAnn and second wife Barbara both predeceased him, as did his sister Muriel Lisk of New Jersey, daughter Carol Williams of McDonough, and daughter Ellen Pierce of Eatonton.  He is survived by son Frank Kemp in Dawsonville; daughter Cindy Childs in Marietta; stepsons, Scott, Bill and Marshall Moore in Michigan; and stepdaughter Debbie Finnerty in Massachusetts.  Frank’s blended family gave him 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren to treasure.  Many beloved cousins, nephews, and nieces also survive him.
