Doris Hill (Hill) Ledbetter

Obituary

Doris Hill Ledbetter passed away Tuesday, January 19,2021.  Doris was born in Habersham Mill Village July 4, 1931.  She was the fourth child of Jay and Bertha Dixon Hill.  Doris had three brothers and six sisters.  Life was filled with wonderful experiences growing up in a large family.  Her education began in a private school inside the Mill Village.  After graduating from seventh grade, she continued her educating at Clarksville High School.  She was a cheerleader in high school and finished as the valedictorian of her class.  After high school she continued her education at Piedmont College and the University of Georgia off Campus.

At age 18 she met Bob Ledbetter and they dated until they were married August 13, 1950.  She began married life in Gainesville where Bob was a pharmacist at Ledford Pharmacy.  They moved to Dahlonega in November of 1950.  This was also the year they opened the Dahlonega Pharmacy.  It was not only a pharmacy, but also a soda shop where her hot dogs were made famous.  In 1974 they moved to a new location outside of the square and this is where the pharmacy is still in operation.  She successfully ran the pharmacy after Bob’s untimely death with the help of her son, Bobby Ledbetter.  She worked until April 29, 2016. 

In 1952 Doris and Bob moved to Mt. View Drive and it would be their lifetime home.  She loved her family she also loved to cook and entertain.  Doris was friend to many and was well loved in her hometown of Dahlonega. 

Mrs. Ledbetter is survived by her son Bobby and Mailan Ledbetter of Dahlonega, Georgia: son David and Donna Ledbetter of Clarksville, Georgia: grandchildren Allison and Jeremy Layne and Natalie Loggins; great grandchildren: Anzley Loggins, Keyleigh Ledbetter, Ethan Layne and Maddie Layne, of Dahlonega, Georgia. 

A Grave Side Service will be held at 11:00  A.M. on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Mt. Hope Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Dahlonega Baptist Church.
