Obituary

Bradley Tyson 1937 - 2023

Bradley Yates Tyson, known to his loved ones as Brad, peacefully passed away on September 12, 2023, at the age of 86 in Dahlonega, Georgia. He was born on March 29, 1937, in Wadesboro, NC, to the late Burgess Martin Tyson and Dorothy Virginia Tice Tyson. He had one older sister Virginia Martin Tyson Gray. Seventy years ago, Brad went on a blind date with Juliette “Judy” Tyson. He has said he did not know it at the time, but he had met his true love. They dated throughout high school and college. On June 12, 1960, they married and recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Judy died on September 1 after a brief illness. Brad said he did not think he could go on without his beloved Judy and died 12 days later of a broken heart. Brad was very devoted to his family. He is survived by his son Max (Debra) Tyson, daughter Melissa Tyson (all of Dahlonega), and his granddaughters Jennifer Tyson (Atlanta GA), Savannah Tyson (Tampa FL), Mallie Sykes (St. Pete Beach FL), and Lane (JT) Alexander (Gainesville GA). Of all the titles he has had in his life, “Gdaddy” was his favorite. He loved watching his granddaughters grow up and encouraged them in anything they did from sports to art to music to education. He was so proud of each one of them. Brad held a variety of jobs during his career starting with a paper route at the age of 9. He later worked in newspaper printing and crime scene photography. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He joined Kohler in Spartanburg, SC and later became the plant engineer at Torrington - Tyger River Plant in Union, SC. He played a significant role in building Torrington plants in Cairo and Dahlonega, GA, where he served as the plant engineer for several years. Later he became the Maintenance Management Manager, traveling to various plants within the corporation, including facilities in England. Brad retired from Torrington after 33 years and served as the Lumpkin County Land Development Authority Director for three years. Brad’s faith in God was always the cornerstone in his life. He attended Wadesboro First Baptist Church, Spartanburg First Baptist Church, Union First Baptist Church, Cairo First Baptist Church, and Dahlonega Baptist Church. Over the years he served as a Deacon, a member of the Personnel and Benevolence committees, Board of Directors, and helped with Vacation Bible School. He was a faithful member of the Challengers Sunday School class at Dahlonega Baptist Church as well as the Cooper-Green Men’s prayer group. Brad was also known for his beautiful deep rich bass voice. He was always a member of the choir and sang at countless weddings and funerals. Brad had a wide range of hobbies and interests. He had a passion for photography, enjoyed solving puzzles, hunting, and fishing and spending time outdoors. He was an active member of Lions Club International (Lifetime Member) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He helped with the Habitat for Humanity and Side-by-Side Ministries. Brad supported organizations that helped others including Jeremiah’s Place and the Anne Green Free Clinic. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Friday, September 15, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Dahlonega Funeral Home, located at 20 Gibson Road, Dahlonega, GA 30533. (Jeremiah's Place) P O Box 668, Dahlonega, GA 30533 or to The Anne Green Free Clinic, 75 Rock House Road, Dahlonega, GA 30533. Brad will forever be remembered for a kind and generous man who loved sharing Jesus with others. He was thankful for each day the Lord gave him on this earth and he tried to make the best of it. He often said that his bags were packed, and he was ready for whenever the Lord called him home. The family takes comfort in knowing that Brad is now with Judy in their forever home!
