Anthony Raymond Faiia, 74, of Dawsonville, GA passed away on January 10 after his battle with cancer. He was born in Gadsden, Alabama to Alfredo and Marjorie Faiia. He was a wonderful and loving husband to his wife, Linda Storey Faiia, of 49 years. They met at North Georgia College. Tony was then commissioned into the Army after his graduation in 1968. He served as 2nd Lt. for a year in the Vietnam War where he was awarded a bronze star, national defense service medal, and several more. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jerry Sewell. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda and three precious daughters, Kerri Sumner (Bart), Kristine Bennett (John), and Kathryn Ponzio (Adam). He had eight awesome grandchildren, Kason, Caleb, Caidee, Kara, Alivia, Anthony, Avalin, and Adrian. He is also survived by his brother, William Faiia, and his sister, Rosemary Beyea, and several nephews and nieces.
As committed as Tony was to his family, he was equally dedicated to his career as an aviation adjuster with AIG and later Starr Aviation. All of those who worked with him knew when things needed to get done, and done right, Tony was the one to turn to.
Tony was a dedicated member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and gave his time and talents to the Corps of Cadets at UNG.
He was an avid runner and tennis player, but his greatest recreational hobby was probably working in the yard. If there was ever a time you could not find Tony, you knew to look for him somewhere outside planting a bush or cutting up tree.
If there was one thing he was also clearly known for and adored because of, was that he never met a stranger. This trait exemplified Tony’s life, the obvious love he showed to his family and the kindness he was ready to extend to anyone in his path.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Luke’s Catholic Church or the Corps of Cadets at UNG.
